Båts and Bils in Valdemarsvik
In another active weekend in Valdemarsvik, Saturday was the annual wooden boat festival and a large amateur road rally – Bilsport Rally Cup. There were good crowds for both events. Sunday is the set up for the Konstnär Lisbeth Karlsson med vänner exhibit in which Ystra Nystan will participate.
The road rally had 91 registered entrants and 70-plus had arrived before I had to be off to the boat festival. The 33 km rally course went north past Gusum and Rigarum to Sverkersholm, then south of Vardemasvik to Svingen, before returning to the city.
There were new and old Volvos and Saabs, VWs and even Ford Escorts and Opels — all equipped with roll cages and racing seats. While an amateur event, it was clear some played the sponsorship game much better than others, with the best sporting a logoed support vehicle and racing suits. All the vehicles looked well put together and not suffering from previous mishaps.
An even larger crowd at the harbor awaited rowers in antique and replica wooden boats. Following the entrance to the harbor, some broke out sails and less stressfully “tooled” around a bit. An array of large wooden ships were also docked around the harbor. Merchant and food vendors lined the crowded walkways.
Konstnär Lisbeth Karlsson med vänner opens Monday.
